The Mission

The mission of Terra Verde Discovery School is to preserve the joys of childhood while cultivating creativity and critical thinking that stresses the importance of entrepreneurial enthusiasm, ecological sustainability, and ethical benevolence.

Welcome from the Headmaster

It is an exciting time to join the Owl family! Terra Verde is a dream come true for many in Norman, especially for Central Oklahoma. The leadership at Terra Verde understands the exceptional people who make up this region as many of us call this wonderful community home. Bringing a world-class educational institution with a vision and passion for young lives is a passion for all of us on campus. In exploring these pages, we hope you will begin to ascertain what makes Terra Verde unique.

Each year, 16 Pre-K students enter Terra Verde to “begin their labors anew” at a school that embodies excellence. Each child at Terra Verde is encouraged to experience the joys of childhood while participating in intellectual adventures and opportunities that are divergent from compulsory public education experiences. Our teachers, staff, and families inspire each child to step outside the familiar and comfortable confines by promoting entrepreneurial enthusiasm, ecological sustainability, and ethical benevolence. In doing so, our students will be exceptionally well-prepared to transition to become leaders in society.

As a parent and administrator, I personally understand the need for quality, enriching education that prepares the hearts and minds of our youth to positively impact society in the future. At Terra Verde, we value childhood and the vast range of emotions that are felt during adolescent and teenage years. Our faculty and staff create a campus culture and classroom environment that allows our students to ascertain various worldviews from publishers, authors, faculty, coaches, media, entertainment and the world around them. From our Kindergarten program which lays a firm foundation in the social, emotional, physical and mental development of our young, to our middle school coursework, students will be equipped with the tools necessary to pursue opportunities of the future. We desire our students to be curious, to question, to analyze, and to explore with their hands, hearts, and minds. As we look to the future, we are committed to becoming one of the leading schools in the nation, while remaining connected to our mission. We will invest in the lives of students, in the lives of those in our community, and in the lives of our dedicated faculty and staff.

We encourage you to learn more about our Terra Verde community and join our family as we engage in our mission. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Eric.Snyder@terraverdeschool.com or 405-366-6362

Joys of Childhood

Our educational philosophy's deep and rigorous program is designed by our exceptional faculty who serve as instructors. Here, your child will learn with joy and purpose.

Ecological Sustainability

Each year, the entire Terra Verde learning community honors our Earth with meaningful environmental service projects. In recent years this included the removal of invasive species and revitalization of natural plants.

The installation of rain-water catchment systems, growing of fruits and vegetables in our raised orchard and raised garden beds, and completing philanthropic events to raise funds for clean water in the U.S. and throughout the world.

Off-campus, Terra Verde classes have partnered with community organizations to complete park clean-ups with an emphasis on stewardship and protection of the watershed.

Terra Verde is a TreeRing Green Yearbook School! For each yearbook produced, TreeRing works with their partner, Trees for the Future, to plant that many trees in our school's name.

Entrepreneurial Enthusiasm

Entrepreneurial Enthusiasm at Terra Verde allows students to develop ways in which to raise funds for individuals or causes they are passionate about. Each grade at TVDS annually creates a business (non-profit/for-profit).

Core Virtues

Terra Verde's unique Virtues Program is embedded in school life and practiced by students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis. Morning Meeting is one of the cornerstones of the Virtues Program. The entire Terra Verde community gathers two times a month is family groups to reflect on what is important to us as a community. Student- and teacher-led Morning Meeting presentations are focused on Virtues; exploring their deeper meanings and learning to be mindful of them in our daily interactions. This sets the tone for respectful learning, helps students develop their communication skills and confidence, and establishes a climate of belonging and trust.
